It can be quite challenging to make decent figurative drawings in a strip club. The same can be said about any subject that so happens to be moving or in motion for that matter. One of the difficulties with working in such an environment is that it’s dark. The best drawings come about when a subject is being observed from a distance and is oblivious to the knowledge of that they are being drawn. Another difficulty with drawing in such an environment is obviously the fact that the subject does not stand still or remain paused for very long at all, if ever. Sometimes the best poses are held for but a fraction of a second. In these moment it feels almost impossible to best control one’s hand in order to make any dark scribble seem legible. I leave feeling as though l my hand could not  move nearly quickly enough to properly give justice and capture the grace and elegance I witnesses. I find myself in moments like these closing my eyes and drawing reference to the image of which I capture in my mind’s eye. When my eyes are closed I can make a draft of what I best recall. I’m not sure if this is what people refer to as a “photographic memory”? … Either way, the best and most adequate description I could give you in order for you compare or even comprehend imagining trying to do a life drawing session in a kings cross strip club - I would say this ; “Draw everything that comes onto your television screen in the ad breaks between the show that you’re watching”… That is what it’s like to take a sketch book to a strip club. That is what it is like to make life drawings in a strip club. This sketch is an example of such.
